Solar in Scotland

Start here if you are wondering whether solar is worth considering this far north. These guides cover how panels respond to Scottish daylight, what to expect through the seasons, how export tariffs work and which common myths do not stand up. They also explain the factors that decide how quickly a system pays its way, rather than offering a single headline number.

Batteries and tariffs

Home batteries are especially useful in Scotland, where winter solar output is low and time-of-use tariffs make overnight charging attractive. These guides explain battery cycles, lifespan, choosing a battery for cold garages and outbuildings, and how arbitrage and tariffs such as Flux and Agile are structured.

Windows, insulation and EPCs

Many Scottish homes are stone tenements, cottages or post-war houses with very different heat losses. These guides explain where heat escapes, double versus triple glazing, window films, when to replace windows, and how EPC ratings work and can be improved.

Heat pumps

Heat pump guides explain how air and ground source systems work, how they suit Scottish homes and how they can pair with solar panels and a home battery.

How our survey works

Every project starts with a no-obligation survey. We look at your roof orientation, pitch, shading and condition, your fuse board and meter position, where a battery or inverter could go, and how your household uses electricity through the day and across the Scottish seasons. You then receive a written quote showing the equipment, the expected generation for your roof and the full price, so you can compare it fairly. We handle the network connection paperwork with your local distribution network operator, which is SP Energy Networks in central and southern Scotland and SSEN in the north, Highlands and islands. We install through MCS-certified partners. Solar panels and batteries are 0% VAT until March 2027. Finance available, subject to status.
