The Solar Panels Scotland blog covers practical topics for Scottish homeowners: how solar performs in local weather, how batteries and tariffs work, home energy upgrades and VAT and finance updates. Articles are written to help you make informed decisions before you request a quote.
What we write about
We cover solar generation through the Scottish seasons, battery sizing, smart tariffs, heat pumps, insulation, windows and EPC ratings. We also explain the network connection process and what to expect from an installation.

How we write
We avoid general savings promises and invented case studies. Where figures depend on your home, we explain the factors involved instead, and we update articles when rules such as VAT relief change.
Where to start
New to solar? Start with our guide to whether solar works in Scotland, then read about batteries and tariffs. If you are ready for figures for your own home, request a no-obligation survey.
What happens after you get in touch
We start by asking a few questions about your home, your roof and how you use energy, then arrange a no-obligation survey at a time that suits you. Surveys cover the whole of Scotland, from Dumfries and Galloway to the Highlands and islands, including tenements, cottages, bungalows and modern homes.
After the survey you receive a written quote showing the system design, the equipment, the expected generation for your roof and the full price. There is no obligation and no pressure to decide on the day. If you go ahead, we arrange the network notification with SP Energy Networks or SSEN, schedule scaffolding and installation, and provide your certificates and warranty documents once the system is commissioned. Finance available, subject to status.
How our survey works
Every project starts with a no-obligation survey. We look at your roof orientation, pitch, shading and condition, your fuse board and meter position, where a battery or inverter could go, and how your household uses electricity through the day and across the Scottish seasons. You then receive a written quote showing the equipment, the expected generation for your roof and the full price, so you can compare it fairly. We handle the network connection paperwork with your local distribution network operator, which is SP Energy Networks in central and southern Scotland and SSEN in the north, Highlands and islands. We install through MCS-certified partners. Solar panels and batteries are 0% VAT until March 2027. Finance available, subject to status.
