The cost of solar panels in Scotland depends on your roof, the number of panels, the inverter, whether you add a battery, and how complex the installation is. Rather than quote generic prices, this guide explains what drives the price so you can understand your own written quote, which always shows the full price.

What affects the price

The biggest factors are system size, panel and inverter choice, and battery capacity. Scaffolding is a significant part of most jobs, and tall tenements, steep hillside streets or three-storey homes need more of it. Slate roofs take longer to work on than concrete tiles, and long cable runs to a garage or outbuilding add labour.

Electrical upgrades can also be needed, such as a new consumer unit or a replacement main fuse, which we check on survey.

Battery or no battery

A battery adds to the upfront price but lets you use more of your own solar in the evening and can charge on cheaper overnight rates. Whether that is worthwhile depends on when you use electricity and which tariff you are on, which we review with you.

VAT and paying for your system

Solar panels and home batteries are 0% VAT until March 2027, which is already reflected in our quotes. Finance available, subject to status.

Commercial installations follow different VAT rules, so business customers should speak to their accountant.

Comparing quotes

When comparing quotes, check the panel and inverter models, the usable battery capacity, the expected yearly generation for your roof, who the installer is and whether they are MCS-certified, and what warranties are included. A cheap quote without a proper survey often leads to surprises.

How our survey works

Every project starts with a no-obligation survey. We look at your roof orientation, pitch, shading and condition, your fuse board and meter position, where a battery or inverter could go, and how your household uses electricity through the day and across the Scottish seasons. You then receive a written quote showing the equipment, the expected generation for your roof and the full price, so you can compare it fairly. We handle the network connection paperwork with your local distribution network operator, which is SP Energy Networks in central and southern Scotland and SSEN in the north, Highlands and islands. We install through MCS-certified partners. Solar panels and batteries are 0% VAT until March 2027. Finance available, subject to status.

Frequently asked questions

Why do you not list fixed prices?

Every roof is different, so we give a written quote after a no-obligation survey. It shows the full price with nothing hidden.

Does the quote include scaffolding and paperwork?

Yes. Scaffolding, installation, commissioning, network paperwork and MCS certification are all included in the written quote.

Can I add a battery later?

Yes, though choosing a battery-ready inverter now can make that simpler and cheaper later.
